When the smartphone becomes a support
We are in a restaurant for dinner. In the next table there is a family with two children. One of the two, the eldest, starts whimpering because he wants to get up and after his mother's "no" starts crying. The parents, to make it stop, give him a smartphone to make him distract with an interactive game.

We are in a restaurant for dinner. In the next table there is a family with two children. One of the two, the eldest, starts whimpering because he wants to get up and after his mother's "no" starts crying. The parents, to make it stop, give him a smartphone to make him distract with an interactive game.
How many times have we seen such a scene? It is easy to fall into the temptation to criticize the behavior, not so much because it is wrong to give a sop to the child to silence him among other people, but because to give a digital object to children who do not even know how to read seems to many a mistake.
Yet it is not a different behavior from the parent who gives the toy to the child or turns the TV on to calm him.
AVG, the home of antivirus, has commissioned a research report that over 50% of children between 2 and 5 years old already know how to giocare with a basic tablet game, while only 11% know how to tie their shoes.
The studies are clear: digital devices permeate the homes of every child, but denying their use is not only senseless, it also disadvantages them compared to their peers in knowing how to use tools that will characterize their lives. The Center for Child Health onlus has studied that when devices are used appropriately and in a way shared with parents, they are useful for fun, leisure and the development of some skills, for example in the field of visual coordination -motoria. Some quality television programs and applications, designed by experts for children, can also stimulate their creativity by helping them develop digital skills and problem-solving skills.
Moreover these tools can help children with slight learning difficulties, translating operationsi like reading or writing in moments of play and fun.
The excessive use of technology is not good, but it is not right to deprive even the smallest of the advantages it can give. A correct use of digital media, perhaps together with mom and dad and for limited periods will not only amuse children, but will open a world with many possibilities to learn otherwise precluded things.
Cyclically, when changes are made in society, there is a tendency to worry that they may have a negative influence on the younger ones. Then when some news comes into play, the other passes become simple normality and there is no more case.
Instead of resisting change we should adapt and derive maximum benefit from it.
